The Movie (As Told By Me)
Okay so there’s this boy named Cole and he’s real sad all the time and I think maybe he needs more snacks cause my mama says I get grumpy when I don’t eat enough goldfish crackers. Anyway Cole sees DEAD PEOPLE and at first I thought that meant like people who are sleeping but NO it means actual ghosts and they’re everywhere and they don’t even know they’re dead which seems real confusing to me cause wouldn’t you notice if you was dead?
So there’s this doctor man named Malcolm and he wears a sweater a LOT and he’s trying to help Cole but really Cole’s gotta help HIM only we don’t know that yet cause it’s a SECRET. Malcolm talks real quiet like when my teacher is disappointed and I just wanna tell him to speak UP mister.
Cole’s mama is real pretty and she works ALL the time and she don’t believe Cole about the ghosts and I get that cause one time I told my mama there was a monster in my closet and she said it was just my brother’s smelly shoes. But Cole’s telling the TRUTH and the ghosts keep bothering him and being all scary and I’m like why are they so MEAN if they need help? If I needed help I wouldn’t be mean about it I’d say please and thank you.
There’s this real scary part where Cole is at school and he hasta go to the bathroom—wait my cat just jumped on my keyboard her name is Biscuit she’s orange—okay Biscuit moved now—so Cole goes to this bathroom and it’s all old and creepy and then BAM there’s these ghosts that used to be kids and they’re all hurt and I had to close my eyes cause it was TOO scary but I peeked a little bit through my fingers.
Then Malcolm is like “Cole you gotta LISTEN to the ghosts” and I’m thinking that’s real good advice cause my grandmama always says nobody listens anymore everybody’s always on their phones. So Cole starts listening and the ghosts just wanna tell people stuff before they go away to heaven or wherever dead people go maybe Disney World?
There’s this girl ghost who was POISONED by her own mama and that’s the saddest thing I ever heard cause mamas are supposed to make you chicken nuggets not poison you! And Cole helps her by showing a video to her daddy and I didn’t know they had videos back in old times but I guess they did. The daddy watches it and sees that the mama was putting bad stuff in the girl’s soup and he’s real upset and honestly I would be too cause that’s NOT how you make soup.
Cole gets braver and braver and starts talking to the ghosts more and helping them and it’s real sweet actually. Then he tells his mama about seeing dead people while they’re stuck in traffic and she’s crying and Cole’s crying and I’m eating popcorn but also crying a little bit cause it got real quiet like a serious movie part where everybody hasta pay attention.
BUT THEN here’s the crazy part and I GASPED so loud my daddy said “Presley what in tarnation” and I said DADDY WAIT—the doctor Malcolm? He’s been DEAD the WHOLE TIME! His wife can’t see him cause HE’S A GHOST TOO and he didn’t even KNOW IT! Remember at the beginning when that angry man shot him? Well he DIED right then and he’s been a ghost helping Cole this whole time and I was like WHAAAAAT?!
When I figured it out I said “That don’t make no sense!” cause Malcolm was walking around and talking and eating dinner—wait no he WASN’T eating dinner his wife was eating alone and he was just sitting there watching her and now I get it but at the time I thought maybe he wasn’t hungry. My mama says I should pay more attention to details.
If I was in this movie I would just tell Malcolm right away “Hey mister you’re dead” cause that seems like important information somebody should tell you. And I’d give all the ghosts cookies cause maybe they’re just hangry. Also Cole should get a puppy cause puppies make everything better and ghosts probably like puppies too.
Favorite Part
When Cole finally tells his mama “I see dead people” in the car and she believes him and they talk about his grandma who’s dead but used to visit him. That part made me feel all warm like when you drink hot chocolate and Cole’s mama wasn’t mad she was just real proud of him for being brave and telling the truth.
Kid Rating
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5 stars)
I took away one star cause it was TOO scary in some parts and I don’t like being scared unless it’s the fun kind of scared like on a rollercoaster. But I liked it cause Cole was real brave and he helped people even when he was scared and that’s what heroes do. Plus the twist at the end was BONKERS and I didn’t see it coming even though my daddy says there was clues everywhere.
Kid Moral
Always listen to people even if they’re ghosts cause everybody’s got something important to say and also if somebody’s been dead for a while you should probably tell them cause that’s just good manners.
Actual Plot in One Sentence
A child psychologist treats a young boy who sees ghosts, only to discover he himself died months earlier and has been a ghost throughout the entire film.
Cinephile Wink
The red doorknob wasn’t just pretty—Shyamalan marked every ghost interaction with that color, and now I can’t watch it without playing “spot the red.”

Let’s address the obvious: these kids are fictional, these viewings never happened, and we’re all pretending together because sometimes the best way to rediscover why we love movies is through eyes that never actually watched them. Suspend disbelief accordingly. – The Cine Sage
